Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about how wavekey handles your data and what to do when something isn't working.
Privacy & Data
What data does wavekey store about me?
Only what's needed to keep you signed in and to recognize your trusted device: your account email, your trusted-device details (device name, model, and platform), and short-lived sign-in sessions. Nothing else.
Does wavekey record my audio or voice?
No. The ultrasonic approval is verified in real time between your phone and the device requesting it. No audio is recorded or stored, and the code is inaudible to people.
Are my biometrics or passkeys kept on your servers?
No biometrics are ever collected. When you use a passkey, only its public key is stored so we can verify future sign-ins. The private key never leaves your device.
How long is my data kept?
Sign-in sessions expire automatically and are deleted once they lapse. Your trusted-device record stays until you (or your admin) reset device trust, so your device keeps working until you choose to remove it.
How do I remove my trusted device?
Open Settings, go to Privacy & Data, and use Device trust reset. This revokes your trusted devices and requires fresh enrollment the next time you sign in.
wavekey keeps the minimum needed to protect your account: no recordings, no biometrics, and secrets that stay on your device.
Using wavekey
Why am I not getting approval prompts?
Approval prompts arrive as push notifications, so notifications need to be enabled for the wavekey app. See Notifications in the Mobile App guide.
My approval isn't being detected. What should I check?
Usually this is a speaker issue: disconnect headphones or AirPods and make sure the phone speaker isn't muffled or covered. More fixes are in Troubleshooting.
I don't hear anything during emission. Is that a problem?
No. The code is ultrasonic and inaudible to people, so silence is expected. See Volume & Speaker Behavior for details.
